Our Commitment
At our school, we are committed to creating a community where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. We actively promote the Fundamental British Values and the Protected Characteristics of the Equality Act (2010) throughout our curriculum, pastoral care, assemblies and wider school life.
These principles help our pupils develop into responsible, respectful young people who are prepared for life in modern Britain.
Fundamental British Values
British Values are woven through all aspects of school life and help students understand how society works and how they can contribute positively.
The Five British Values
1. Democracy
We teach pupils that everyone has a voice and deserves to be heard. Examples in school include:
-
School council and student leadership
-
Voting for school representatives or charity events
-
Debates and discussions in lessons
2. The Rule of Law
Students learn the importance of rules and laws in keeping us safe and treating everyone fairly. This includes understanding:
-
School behaviour expectations
-
Laws that protect individuals and communities
-
Consequences of actions
3. Individual Liberty
We help students understand their rights and responsibilities, encouraging them to:
-
Make safe choices
-
Express their opinions in the correct way
-
Develop confidence and independence
4. Mutual Respect
We promote kindness, empathy and understanding. Pupils learn that:
-
Everyone has value
-
We can disagree respectfully
-
Our actions affect others
5. Tolerance of Those With Different Faiths and Beliefs
We celebrate diversity and help pupils understand and respect people from a wide range of backgrounds. This includes:
-
Learning about different cultures and religions
-
Celebrating festivals and special events
-
Guest speakers and curriculum activities
Protected Characteristics (Equality Act 2010)
The Equality Act (2010) protects everyone in the UK against discrimination. It is the law, and it ensures fairness for all.
The Nine Protected Characteristics
-
Age
-
Disability
-
Gender reassignment
-
Marriage and civil partnership
-
Pregnancy and maternity
-
Race
-
Religion or belief
-
Sex
-
Sexual orientation
We teach pupils what these characteristics mean and why it is important to treat everyone equally.

Build positive relationships
-
Learn to respect differences
-
Develop empathy and awareness
-
Prepare for life in a diverse community
-
Become confident, responsible citizens
It also ensures that our school is a safe, welcoming place for all.
